The first Minim House was commissioned by Brian Levy in 2013, who worked with Foundry Architects to design the structure, and David Bamford at Element Design+Build to construct it. As folks toured, many asked for plans to build the house themselves, and Minim Homes was born.  Many more asked for completed houses, so Minim Homes partnered with Minim Built to deliver finished houses to customers. Today there are 3 of us that are working together to bring you the best finished microhouse possible:

Brian Levy: Founder of Minim Homes LLC, who commissioned the original Minim House, workedBrian Minim Homes LLC closely on the design with Foundry Architects, and assisted in construction. He was a cofounder of Boneyard Studios, the first micro house showcase in the U.S.  He has worked at the U.S. Department of Energy, the DC Sustainable Energy Utility, and currently is a Vice President at PEAR, which specializes in finance of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.  Brian has a Bachelor’s in political science from Carleton College and a Masters in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School. David Bamford: Cofounder of Minim Built LLC, and the Dave Head Shotbuilder of the original Minim House in 2013. David has over 25 years of experience in the building trades as a furniture-maker, carpenter, general contractor, energy auditor and architect. For the last 13 years he has been Principal with Element Design + Build, a Washington, DC-based residential design firm focusing on sustainable design. Two of Element’s recent projects have received LEED Platinum ratings. Throughout his professional life, David keeps coming back to the allure and challenge of building compact, efficient residential spaces. MinimBuilt is the exciting next step in this exploration.

David holds a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Michigan and a Master of Architecture from The University of Washington.

Chris VanArsdale: Chris brings more than 15 years of real chris vanarsdale pic b & westate development, legal, tax credit finance, and project management experience to MinimBuilt LLC.  He is President of VNV Development, a firm that focuses on acquisition, finance, and development of residential and mixed-use real estate throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan region. VNV is dedicated to the principles of sustainable building: smart-growth urban site development, affordable housing, renewable energy, and energy and resource-efficient materials and systems. Chris is a founding director and served for eight years as President of GreenHOME, Inc., now Greenspace, Inc., an organization whose mission is to make affordable housing and neighborhoods green ( Chris was an attorney in the Washington DC offices of Arent Fox, Greenberg Traurig, and Akin Gump, specializing in environmental law and brownfields redevelopment. He has a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Harvard University, a Master’s in environmental management and resource economics from Duke University, and a law degree from Cornell Law School.
